Datasonic Chip Operating System (“DCOS”) is currently used across our major MyKad and e-Passport programme as it specifically catered for national ID and International Civil Aviation Organization (“ICAO”) Compliant e-Passport. It is certified to protect against different types of tampering, including Physical Tampering, Side Channel Attack, Memory Tampering, Instruction Tampering and Card Acceptance Device (“CAD”) Domain Tampering. It is certified with the Common Criteria EAL 4+, an international standard (ISO/IEC 15408) to exhibit that the process of specification, implementation, and evaluation has been rigorously conducted.

Datasonic has transformed smart cards, passports, biometrics, laser engraving, Public Key Infrastructure (“PKI”), and other key technologies into exceptionally strong lines of defence against fraud and forgery. These form a solid base to deliver turnkey solutions for e-ID projects. To date, Datasonic has delivered over 40 million electronic identity cards and electronic passports to the Government of Malaysia.

Besides state-of-the-art physical security features, at the heart of the electronic identity cards and passport lies a fully matured in-house chip operating system. This highly efficient operating system has it made possible for faster and more secured on-chip transactions.

New security features for operating system and chips:

• Cards and chips enhanced with advanced security design that is equivalent to currency note, ensure the highest level of protection against fraud.
• Datasonic Card Operating System (DCOS) has improved reading speed from 9 sec to 0.5 sec and certified internationally with Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 4+.

The Malaysian e-Passport is an international travel document which features microchip technology. An integrated chip within its polycarbonate biodata page contains the data to verify the passport holder’s identity. The chip is secured with security algorithms to ensure the data is genuine and authentic.

The chip can be read and verified with special passport readers which comply to ICAO 9303 specification at any automatic border control system; i.e. electronic autogate. The e-Passport also employs electronic security implementation such as Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) as part of the security features in the chip.

DSK-0507 is a self-service and automated document dispenser solution supporting multimodal biometric identity verification. It is designed in response to the demand of identity documents intelligent storage and issuance. With the user-friendly interface provided, it delivers a swift, secured, and pleasant experience not only to the public, but also immigration officers.

The compact drive unit and modern control technology permit batch check-ins and collections of passports, complete status monitoring, durable and reliable safety measures for passport protection, and log recording functions for abnormal conditions.

Datasonic e-Gate serves as a self-service, automatic border control system powered by biometric identification, which ensures secured and efficient border processing for travellers.

Integrated with the e-gate is our in-house fingerprint technology and facial recognition engine that incorporates the world’s first-tier biometric technology. Backed with Liveness Detection, our engine is highly secured against spoofing; it is able to distinguish between a person’s face and a spoof artifact, such as a photo. We employ data-driven evaluation criteria and development methodologies so that our e-Gate is continuously learning from real-world data, improving performance over time even after deployment.

Powered by deep learning, Datasonic’s facial recognition (DFace) model is built on large neural networks which feature millions of webbed neurons interconnected through synapses, an architecture that loosely resembles the human brain.

As most available facial recognition models in the market are trained to perform best on Caucasian or East Asian facial features is a market gap that is increasingly growing in demand. Therefore, we decided to create DFace in pursuit of the best face recognition accuracy for Southeast Asians.

e-KYC Solution

This is a service provided to third parties who requires identity verification to be carried out online.

The identity verification process typically involves:

DSR-1905 Smart Reader

Datasonic’s 1905 Smart Reader is the first standalone reader in the market with two (2) SAM slots along with a dual interface that supports Enhanced Biometric Access (EBA) cryptographic processing at firmware level. EBA is where mutual authentication is performed before access to the fingerprint data can be gained.

Our implementation is fully compliant with the “Protection Profile for Smart Card Readers with Biometric Protection”, a protocol endorsed and regulated by both National Registration Department of Malaysia and Cybersecurity Malaysia.
